Horizontal and Vertical Control for Aerial Mapping Task Sequence and Quality Control Measures

a. Field inspect project site, review panel layout if prepared by TxDOT, and discuss proposed flight with the project engineer or designated TxDOT representative. All aerial mapping ground control projects performed by RODS Surveying are under the direct supervision of an RPLS who will coordinate directly with the photogrammetrist, project engineer or designated TxDOT representative.

b. If not prepared by TxDOT, prepare a panel layout according to TxDOT standards and submit for review.

c. Recover existing ground control or establish ground control. All horizontal ground control is established with static GPS and supervised by an RPLS who is a full time GPS mission planning and post processing specialist. Vertical ground control may be established with static GPS or differentially with digital levels depending on the project circumstances and the preferences of the District. In the event the center panels and established ground control are not one in the same, establish the coordinates and elevations for center panels and the elevations for wing panels. All traverses used to establish coordinates and elevations must be completely closed and not begin and end on the same control points.

d. Process all GPS data collection files, total station/data collector files and digital level files. Review data for errors and conformance to standardized procedures and policies.

e. Prepare control book.

f. Make final review of control book. This review is made by the supervising RPLS in conjunction with the lead technician working on the project.

g. Submit control book to TxDOT for review.

h. Address any questions or concerns voiced by TxDOT personnel, supplement and edit data as necessary, and resubmit control book.
