RODS was contracted by the City of Houston to install 7 Cooperative Continuously Operating GPS Reference Station (CORS) to provide services that will be needed in connection with Phase I, the Upgrade and Expansion of the City of Houston Monumentation System Contract No. 54537. The objective of this project was to replace the existing City of Houston Monument System with a modern control system based on GPS. The existing City Monumentation System had not been maintained or updated in many years and was not suitable for the future needs of the area.

Mr. Babcock was responsible for planning, purchasing, installation, and quality assurance for this project. Our responsibilities also involved coordination with the National Geodectic Survey (NGS) to assure these CORS Stations would be included in the National Network of CORS Stations around the country. RODS also was responsible for the surveys required to establish Orthometric Heights for these CORS Stations. The internet link to these stations is:
http://www.publicworks.cityofhouston.gov/corsdata/index.html.

This project was coordinated by Robert Towery who is the Chief City Surveyor for the City of Houston. He may be contacted at robert.towery@cityofhouston.net. RODS has also established a Cooperative CORS Station at our office in Spring, Texas. The data can be accessed at http://www.rods.cc/r_gps.htm.
